Two Leaves

Wrote a new poem... I can't remember where I got the idea. Or where I wrote it, actually. It's kind of strange, because I definitely remember that it wasn't inspired by seeing any actual leaves. I sort of forgot about it tucked in the back of the notebook I used to write the first half of Child of Thunder. Well, anyhow, read it and weep! Or maybe just let me know what you think. It's a bit short, so if I haven't lost you in writing this long intro, you really don't have far to go.

"Two Leaves"

We're just two leaves,
caught in the same breeze,
I was so alone on my treetop perch,
the last green gasp of summer
till this windy night brought us together
two leaves, floating together

I never wanted to turn gold,
never asked to reach the top,
all I wanted was the chance,
to fly, and one brave soul to join me

I don't ever want to come down
don't want to stop and decay,
with all the rest of Autumn's victims,
all to be raked and bagged and burned
I just want to reach for the clouds,
with you by side,
reach high and never, ever come down
